PHSC was formed out of love and loss. They are sisters and cousins who grew up together in a tight knit family in Western Canada. There were inklings of PHSC in the mid-2000s when all four of them were the ones left singing karaoke after all the others had left.
In October of 2012 they lost a very special member of their family. Phoenix Ryland was Mimi’s daughter who, after almost 2 years of battling leukemia, became an angel just 2 months shy of her 5th birthday. She was a very strong willed, wise, sassy and intuitive child. One of her favourite snacks was cheese slices in the shape of hearts and purple was her favourite colour. She fought with bravery and courage and inspired PHSC to form in January of 2014 with their first song Holding You; written for and about Phoenix.
Today, PHSC writes songs to process the complicated layers of life and to honour Phoenix’s life, strength and bravery.
