about

I'm a daughter of the so-called "post colonial"-state-of-the-PHL diaspora, deepening my understanding of roots and critical consciousness, including through helping preserve precolonial culture through creating percussive blends using primarily Moro kulintang, sarunay and gandingan instruments. My poetry, astroelementals-embracing drone/ambient/minimal techno/nature soundscapes, and (mostly Maguindanao and Maranao) melodic lines of the southern PHL often interact with my eclectic instrumentals.

My intention is to help spread appreciation for sounds that are disappearing, and to bring Our peoples struggles with undoing both colonial mentality and Our colonized hearts to the forefront of social awareness as a means to elicit constructive change.

Years of relentless bottom-up community organizing and advocacy work has instilled in me interconnecting insights on the HerStory/TheirStory/OurStory of Our ancestors and loved ones, struggles against abusive/colonial dynamics, cultural amnesia, ecocide, the suffering of non-humxn animals, and many other forms of injustice. Outlets for my healing have included co-founding and organizing with Fuerza/Puwersa, an Attawandaron Aboriginal territory (Guelph, Ontario)-based migrant worker advocacy group, and collaboratively hosting and
producing for social-conscience-fueled, interview-based community radio shows, like for another project I’d started, Migrant Matters Radio.

Although I've arrived in this multiarts world, I still create to honor persxnal and collective lived realities, and to support acts that truly nurture who We are, Our HerStories/TheirStories/OurStories, all of Our ancestral cultures where respecting nature was central/priority, as well as all living beings.

"Luyos" in my artist name refers to a tree residing in Maharlika (aka colonized PHL) that I'd met several years back. Luyos is possibly indigenous to Maharlika, and is pictured throughout my website's background. It's grounding energy, for me, is in tune with the resonance of the kulintang.
